I had a busy weekend over Peace Memorial Weekend! Peace Memorial Day is on Feb 28, though we got the 27th off as a makeup holiday since the 28th fell on a Saturday this year.
I met up with an internet friend for brunch on Saturday and since I had time in the morning, I tried out a makeup look I saw on Instagram!
The pink is not as bright as the blues, so I'm not sure if it looks unbalanced? Overall I do like the colors and placement, though!
The brunch place we went is one that I've been to before. It's a bit expensive, but I think it's pretty tasty!
This time I tried the torched salmon on French toast with salmon roe. It was a savory-sweet dish that was really quite nice!
Hash brown pieces were crispy around the edges and soft in the middle. I like this style.
Then I went to my friend's birthday party afterward! It was a 3-day event over the long weekend!! We ate so much food and I think I had three or four different types of cake??
On Sunday I went to a monthly board games event as usual.
Bodice: Ozzon Japan
Afterward I went to the birthday party again... AND ATE MORE CAKE! Played some mahjong and had a great time!
On Monday I went to try out a "viral" DIY (I really have no idea if anything is truly viral nowadays or if they just claim to be for FOMO) of salmon sashimi added to a McDonald's Fillet-O-Fish

KC, Blouse, JSK, Rings: BABY THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT
Underskirt: Forest Song
Shoes: Sheep Puff
Honestly, it was pretty good!! We got the sashimi at Donki and brought it to McDonald's. Added the soy sauce and wasabi to the sashimi, and then added three slices each to our fillet-o-fish. We got double fillet and extra tartar sauce.
The tartar sauce mixes SO WELL with the wasabi somehow???? I really did enjoy this! The sashimi cuts the fried fillets' oiliness a bit and adds a different type of richness. I hope I'm describing that well! I'm not good at describing taste/scent/why I like something very well. Language is difficult!!
Anyway, I would definitely try this again! I do think getting the sandwich fresh and warm is best, so if you can, get the sashimi and bring to a McD. Or get a McD close to somewhere you can DIY this sandwich so it doesn't get cold and the cheese doesn't get yucky.
Have you tried any "viral" foods/recipes? I've actually discovered some nice and easy recipes from Instagram reels! Including Japanese curry macaroni and cheese, miso butter spaghetti, and mapo tofu udon (this one is a bit more work for the tofu sauce.) There's also been instances of trying a hyped-up spot only to be sorely disappointed, though.
Last Thursday I went to an izakaya with some friends as it had excellent ratings on Google Maps and I'd seen it promoted by food creators on IG. It was.... not good. Service was extremely slow and they kept forgetting our orders, my friends all said all the meat dishes were overcooked (fortunately, my fish chin dish was nice. That's difficult to overcook) and even one of the veggie dishes tasted like char!
Still, I like trying out new stuff! I made a little video to post to my Instagram Stories for the DIY sandwich adventure. It's not very good as there wasn't enough footage (I'm not good at remembering to take video in the moment!) but I'll try to embed it here and see if it works!
I've seen so much stuff on Feb 28th that I had to do research! I had no clue it was such an important day but now I know!
ReplyDeleteI feel like when it comes to pinks you need like either a cream or white base. Or just build it up a lot. The blue is very nice tho!
I'm usually not the one that hears about viral foods. I learn about them through other people XD
That's a shame about the place you went to tho. I always feel like influencers and content creators are treated like celebs now so they prob went all out when those people were there and overhyped. A lot of the places like that are not the best otherwise or they got bombarded so much that they don't want the hype anymore lol. At least that's how I feel

DeleteNGL, I still confuse details about 228 😹 History in general just seems to mush together in my head. I learn things, then confuse them with other things I've learned before that may be completely unrelated.
I did have a primer base on, but I think that I should have used the more pigmented pink rather than the more transparent pastel one I chose! I have four pink eye shadows, just need to learn which one to use when 😹
I actually heard about this viral food from a friend too 😹 She thought of me when she saw it online and shared a video with me. It was definitely up my alley!
Ooh you may be right about content creators being given extra-nice treatment! It's like why food critics will try to be low-key when reviewing a restaurant (or at least they should be) so they get a genuine experience. I have definitely also heard of some smaller shops asking influencers NOT to share their spot online in case it spoils their ability to maintain nice service or a peaceful atmosphere. Guess we just got unlucky with that izakaya that time!!
