Flower Knows Makeup Review

 Have you heard of Flower Knows?  It's a Chinese makeup brand that exploded in popularity due to its intricate and adorable packaging, relatively affordable price point, and performance.  I've wanted to try it for years, and finally got the chance to physically swatch products when I was in Tokyo last year.

I initially picked up three lip glosses at Don Don Donki in Tokyo.  They smell sweet and delightful, have gorgeous packaging (this is from the mermaid shell series), and are comfortable to wear.  Being that they are lip glosses, the colors are on the sheer side, which makes them easy to reapply without a mirror.  I really like all three!! The colors don't show up too significantly different.  And I couldn't take any lip photos without my skin looking absolutely horrible, so... no photos worn 😹

Because I had a good experience with the lip products, I decided to pick up some blushes also from the mermaid shell collection, and a concealer palette from the Teddy Bear collection online.

The packaging on all three are gorgeous!!!  I'd been looking for a cool pink/purple blush and a red-pink blush to layer together as I currently have a coral, a warm pink, and a cream red blush only.  I'd also been looking into color correction and cream concealer for my under-eye dark shadows, so figured I'd give this multi-purpose palette a try.

The color-correction palette has three different formulas for the four colors.  Here, I am using the peachy corrector for my undereye shadows:

It definitely cancels out the bluish purple color under my eyes.  I don't bring it up to my lashline because I put eyeshadow there so  I don't see the point.  The two concealers (light and dark colors) work well for blemishes, but the pinky highlight color is the one I haven't figured out how to make it work!

It's meant to highlight inner corner and stuff like that, but it gets patchy (it's a different formula to the other three creams) and I'm not sure if I should use my fingers, a brush, a sponge-tip applicator, or what!  It does apply all right around the nose and mouth corners with a dense concealer brush, so I may stick to using it for that, or for highlighting eye bags when I want that.

One of the spaces in the concealer palette is a blank space for mixing colors if you need it. Very handy so you don't need to mix it on your hand or the mirror!  I personally hate getting makeup on my hands, so I try to avoid putting any products on my hands or fingers.

 The blushes layer really well! I don't know how well it shows up in photos, but I really like the effect in real life. 

 I usually put the cool pink/purple blush in a large area around the apples of my cheeks up the cheekbones, and then put the darker pink plush with a smaller brush in the center under my eye.

 Overall, I really like the Flower Knows products I've had so far!

Trendy in Tokyo Colorful Palette Review

Colorful makeup is so fun and inspiring!  I love being able to play with a lot of different colors, and had been looking at quite a few rainbow palettes for some time.  In the end, I did an impulse purchase for this Trendy in Tokyo palette from bhcosmetics for US$16 when I was replacing skincare items at Ulta.

It took some time to put together this review because my phone gave up ghost and I was unable to take photos of any makeup I tried 

The palette also includes a nice mirror, which I use when doing my makeup.

Paperless Flyers

Last year I made a post about using Paperless Post to send event invitations, and now they have a new function I just used: Flyers!  It didn't appear to cost me any coins to share my flyer via facebook, either.  I'm working with Paperless Post again to share this information with you (non-sponsored) if you are environmentally conscious but still like "official" invitations and flyers.

The flyer was very simple to make and can even have animated text, which we obviously cannot do on traditional paper flyers.

Personally I love invites and flyers as they seem more creative and personal than the general "facebook event" where many people don't RSVP or respond with the dreaded "maybe."

Not Even a Review: Vivienne Westwood Anglomania X melissa RHS

The original Rocking Horse Shoes by Vivienne Westwood are a Lolita staple, with many Lolita brands having come out with their own versions over the years.   I've wanted to own a pair of RHS since I first fell in love with Lolita fashion, but just browsing the website is enough to give your wallet a heart attack!

When the collaboration with melissa brand came out, I nearly bought a pair as they'd be waterproof (melissa specializes in plastic shoes) but couldn't reasonably afford them. I even went to a local melissa store to ask if they had any, but was told they were not going to import these designs.

Good luck struck as over the weekend I heard about an insane sale of Vivienne Westwood (among other brands) goods from one of our Lolita friends.  I went with Kamiko and found the very shoes I was looking for! Better yet, they were 90% off. That's right; I bought two pairs for one tenth the retail price!

Sadly, work has not been good to me so I was unable to pick up more colors (white, gray, and limited edition Rose Gold were also available) but I'm happy with what I got.

 The logo on the bottom is at the tip of the shoe, which doesn't touch the ground much when walking so I expect it will last a long time!

That's one more thing off my Lolita bucket list! Given how often it rains here, maybe it's fate that I got the melissa collaboration rather than the authentic wood sole ones, which would suffer in the rain.

Word traveled fast and I visited the sale a total of three times, running into different lolitas each time. I wore the red pair the very next day to a lolita meetup, which will be in an upcoming post, so stay tuned to see them in action!

Medusa's Makeup Brand Review

More and more indie makeup brands are springing up left and right in North America and Europe! I decided to expand my makeup collection and placed several orders with one brand, Medusa's Makeup, and even tested out their subscription service.  The brand claims to be cruelty-free and vegan. I am a supporter of cruelty-free beauty, so decided to give Medusa's Makeup a go.

The first order I placed was a spur of the moment decision. There was a sale so I decided to order just three Totally Baked eye shadows in the colors Radical, a bright purple, Whatever, a deep gray, and Fer Sure, a bright red. The finish on all the baked eye shadows is a smooth shimmer finish.

Masuda Sebastian X za limited edition compact

Creativity is so wonderful that I envy artists who can make a living simply by making their imagination into a real-life artwork. It would feel like a magical life!

Masuda Sebastion is a famous artist who does very detailed, super-kawaii, over the top designs.  I love it!

So when I saw the collaboration between the artist and the brand za, which I use for liquid foundation and concealer, I just had to grab one!  The product is actually a refill pan for the Liquid x Powder foundation, which I've never used before.

Sweets-Sweets Tokyo Varnish Review

Hello! Today I've got a short and sweet (haha I'm so funny) review on the Sweets-Sweets Tokyo nail varnish/polish.  They've also got an adorable website!

We received two sets of three polishes from the Chiffon Meetup, but since not everybody uses nail polish, we divided them among the ones who do. I go a blue and a green. 

One of the biggest things I dislike about nail polish is the smell, and these luckily don't give off much smell at all!  I was painting Neco's nails in the restaurant (we were a bit overexcited and forgot about the situation) and it didn't cause any smell that could overpower just the smell of pancakes. At home I use it and the smell is truly minimal in these sparkling, buildable polishes.

Three coats of the polish is opaque

The first coat of polish is pretty sheer, and I think it would look good as a topcoat over white polish or another one of your choice. It would reflect at different angles and look very cool, I think!

In order to get a completely opaque look using only these polishes, it took me three coats. At two it was fairly opaque but the brush strokes were visible.  Layering this polish with a base in the same color would be a good way to get the opacity you want without applying so many layers!

Overall, I really like these polishes and will keep my eye out for other colors.  They last pretty well so long as you remember to add a topcoat of your choice.

What's your favorite nail polish color? I really love a vibrant yet neutral pastel pink, which probably is not a good description ^^; image the color of strawberry milk and that is the shade of pink that I like!

I haven't had time to do fancier nail art designs recently, nor have I felt inspired to do anything other than Candy Corn pedicure.  If I get a good idea to go with these polishes, I'll definitely be making a post about that!

Skincare Review~ The Ordinary by DECIEM

I recently ran out of my old skincare products and decided to give the currently hyped-up brand The Ordinary a try. I purchased four products after scouring the site for hours, as they don't use a ton of  filler ingredients so everything sounds rather scientific.  I suggest you read up on everything before deciding which products to buy.

On the other hand, you can simply follow their Example Regimens to save yourself the hassle!

The first product in my new skincare routine is the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 which supports hydration and repair.

I'd previously read that hyaluronic acid only provides temporary surface hydration by pulling water FROM your skin rather than from the air TO your skin, leaving your skin feeling temporarily hydrated but ultimately dryer than ever. As it turns out, this is because there are different forms the molecule.  Molecules which are too large sit on the surface of the skin, drawing water OUT if there is not enough moisture in the air.  Using too much straight HA can also have this effect as it can take 1000 times its weight in water, so using too much will result in the moisture of your skin being pulled out.
According to The Ordinary, "This formulation combines low-, medium- and high-molecular weight HA, as well as a next-generation HA crosspolymer at a combined concentration of 2% for multi-depth hydration in an oil-free formula. This system is supported with the addition of Vitamin B5 which also enhances surface hydration. "

This means that after applying this formulation, it's best to add a moisturizer on top so the HA sucks the moisturizer you've applied deep into your skin to provide true hydration.  I use four drops each in the morning and evening.  The water-based formula is absorbed quickly and feels really good on the skin!

Next I use something which is new to me: Advanced Retinoid 2%.  I've not used retinoids, retinols, or retonic acids before.

This is a water-based formula so I apply it before oils.  I think it would be best to ease into using any form of retinoid, and the website cautions "Retinoids can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. Sun protection is particularly important when using retinoids. This product must not be used in conjunction with other retinoids including retinol or retinoic acid. This product is not a treatment for acne. Acne-prone skin may experience a temporary increase in acne during the first few weeks of using any form of retinoid including those used in this formulation."

I started out using four drops but found that my skin was not yet used to this and became a bit red and uncomfortable, so I reduced it to two drops in the evening.  Some deep-seated acne I'd had for months finally emerged and I was able to extract them about two to three days after starting this new treatment, even though it says it is not an acne treatment (I do not have acne-prone skin)

This product claims to treat textural irregularities and signs of age which are both things I'd like to see improvement on!!  This also absorbs quickly and easily.  It is a milky color compared to all the others, which are clear.

The third item I bought was Ascorbyl Ttraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F.  Basically, a Vitamin C serum, which is common in the skincare industry to treat uneven skin tone.

Because Vitamin C has so many forms and derivatives, The Ordinary provides a chart to help you understand the differences.  I chose this light oil formula for its high potency and low stinging sensation.  In fact, I feel no stinging sensation at all when I used this.  Being a light oil, it glides on very smoothly, but feels almost a bit grainy, thought there are no actual granules to be found, so I'm not sure what that is about??  After a few seconds of massaging in the oil, it is absorbed and the sensation disappears.

This product is intended to treat dullness, uneven tone, and signs of age.  I definitely have some uneven skin tone so I hope this will help!

Finally, I wanted an overall hydrator.  I do have dry patches of skin and I also wanted to maximize the effect of the Hyaluronic Acid product I'd purchased by giving it a moisturizer to draw into deeper layers of skin.

Not understanding much about the hydrators, I went for a pure 100% Plant-Derived Squalane.

The majority of the hydrators are oils, so I went with this one, which can be used on both the skin and the hair if your hair suffers from breakage easily.  The only purpose of this product is hydration and I think it does a wonderful job!  When I apply this in the morning, my skin feels hydrated and soft for the entire day.  I have to remind myself not to keep touching my face because this is the first time something has worked so well for me!

Apply this after water-based treatments and then gently massage it in.  I find that it stays emollient enough do to some facial massage for a minute or two, which feels really good!  

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with all my purchases.  I got free shipping because I spent over US$45, yet each of these products (30ml) have very affordable price tags!  

DECIEM, the mother company, has many lines of products and you can also buy from multiple lines and get them shipped together rather than paying for shipping separately.  You can also return your items for a refund up to one year after purchase!!!  I think you'd use up your products by then!

I placed my order on Feb. 7 and it was shipped on Feb. 21, You can track your order with the provided tracking number, and my order arrived on Feb. 27.

After using this regimen for a month, the biggest difference I've noticed is in hydration.  I definitely plan to repurchase when I run out, and have my eyes on the Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG for the eye area as well as one of the two hydrator formulas which also work as makeup primers.  It's a two-for-one; who can resist?

Beauty Review: Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect

Drugstore beauty is my calling in life, but many of the western brands end up far more expensive here than they are in the USA.  A Maybelline mascara that costs US$8.99 is around US$13 (NT$380) here!

So I went on a hunt to find brands I've not explored before.  And since I've been writing product reviews on another beauty site, I figure I'll write the English versions here on my blog!

Anime Cosme Cardcaptor Sakura Blush and Balm

Most recognizable costume and magic staff

Magical girls are a staple in anime and manga, and in recent years mahou shoujo has leaked into real life!  In addition to cosplay, there is now real, daily fashion, accessories, and cosmetics.  Sailor Moon is probably the #1 magical girl series, but I personally have always adored Cardcaptor Sakura!  CLAMP is my favorite manga creator group due to their art style and the fact they have some of the best costume designs in my opinion.

This year is also the 20th anniversary of Cardcaptor Sakura!  Since I didn't have paid TV channels growing up and wasn't allowed to watch much TV at all (books to the rescue!) I had only ever seen snippets of the anime.  Recently, I finally sat down and watched all the episodes in the span of about three days.  Because I'm an adult.  I can do what I want.  

I did watch the series in Japanese with a Chinese subtitles, so if I use some wrong terms when describing some things, that may be why :P

Riding on the high of Cardcaptor Sakura marathon, the very same day I finished watching the last episode, a pop-up cafe of the same theme opened!  I do plan to go if I have friends who want to go with.  Actually, I'd probably go alone just because I want the Clow Card beverage and also to buy some of the goods they are selling.  This is getting off topic.

Anyway, back to the topic of real-life magical girls!  Anime Cosme!!  

Lots of Sailor Moon

I already knew Bandai had created a Cardcaptor Sakura set of blush and lip balm, but never found it for sale in person.  However, I was searching online and found that it could be ordered through Watson's site (similar to Walgreens in the USA) despite having never been in any of the displays!

So of course I ordered one.  It arrived the day after payment and I made a small film to show it!  I've realized that filming is immensely difficult, stock image photography is immensely difficult, and lighting is both difficult and confusing!!  So please excuse the shoddy editing and footage ^_~

Though some fans purchase these types of goods for the sole purpose of collecting them, I do intend to use them.  In fact, I've already used the lip balm~  Cosmetics do expire and the main attraction point is the packaging anyway.

Little Dipper Chiffon Lace Lolita Foundation Blouse Review

Blouses are a basic staple in any Lolita's wardrobe, but with the hot summer months fast approaching, sometimes it feels stifling to wear so many layers!

Chiffon blouses are definitely a hero to this situation in my opinion.  To be honest, it's been quite a long time since I've worn a cotton blouse, and they hang unloved in my closet.  Chiffon is just much easier to handle, especially as they don't wrinkle nearly as much!

I have a couple chiffon blouses in both short and long sleeve that I wear, but recently joined a group order for a different type of chiffon blouse - it's cropped to prevent too much bulk at the waistline due to blouse + petticoat (and sometimes + underskirt) + bloomers/shorts issue.

The blouses we ordered were Chiffon Lace Lolita Boat Neck Inner Foundation Blouse Short/Long Sleeve from Little Dipper.

BABY Happy Pack 2016

I previously mentioned I'd been planning on buying the BABY Happy Pack from either Laina or Hako, and yesterday I received it!  I ended up springing for the lavender colorway, which is lavender X sax blue.

Of course, what you are most interested in in pictures, so I will share them!  The photos are shown with the Classical Puppets bell-shaped petticoat.

I'm quite glad the fabric is not shiny the way it looked in the photos.  It's got a lovely hand and is smooth and nice to touch.  The ribbon is my favorite type of ribbon, smooth and plush. The bow on the center front top is removable so you can wear it at the waist or as an accessory on your bag or elsewhere.

This JSK does NOT have a zipper; it is a pull-on style.

Small Daiso Beauty Review

I recently went to the NT$39 shop (US$1.30), Daiso Japan! So here is a quick review of some products I got that I found very worth it at the bargain price.

First: Double layer pill case repurposed as a FALSE LASHES CASE

Available in multiple colors, I chose yellow so I could decorate it to look like Pikachu! I am obsessed with Pokemon ^_~
My name is on the back in Unown. The pill case sizes are perfect for storing lashes, and the top layer can hold tweezers and glue. The packs that false lashes come in tend to be quite fragile and bend or crack easily. I like using pill cases because you can hold multiple styles for mixing or adding accents, and it's small enough to carry around since that's what pill cases are designed for!

Next: Cosmetic Brush and Sponge Cleanser

This is a very highly-rated product everywhere! I tried it out and it does indeed clean any type of brush (I do not use sponges at all, so I cannot comment on that) very quickly and effectively without the need for using much product. I found that squeezing a coin-size amount in my hand was enough to scrub and clean an eyeshadow brush, a liner brush, and a blush brush!

Final: One-Touch Bottle
I have wanted one of these bottles ever since seeing one in a nail salon video!

I also put my name in Unown on it using the negatives from the original sticker cut-out.
This bottle only requires one hand to pump, so I find it very nice for nail varnish remover because you won't accidentally spill the strong-smelling compound all over or waste product!

I did buy some other beauty products, such as false nail bases and double-sided nail stickers, but those are pretty basic and available everywhere at similar prices so I didn't really feel the need to talk about them.

Daiso Japan is really a great place to get some basic items cheaply, and they tend to be very cute! The quality on most items I've found to be OK, especially considering the price point!

From Pocky with Love

I bought this at the grocery store just out of curiosity.
Normally these "shaped" foods don't really end up looking like anything the box/packaging shows, but it wasn't too pricey for a try, so I figured, why not?

And the result?

It actually took a lot of tries to get a bite that had a recognizable heart shape (not that I'm complaining~ this flavor is yummy!) but after repeated testing, I'd say you have a 50% chance of getting a recognizable heart bite :D

Belle's Library~ BABY Mook

BABY came out with a collective mook in July, but I didn't buy it despite the fact that BABY is my favorite brand and my first step into the Lolita world.

On Saturday, I went to 東區, literally translated as "East District," a fun, fashionable place to go with lots of shopping and eating to do should you ever be in the Taipei area. After eating, we went to Mag Freak, a chain of magazine shop that carries imported magazines and mooks, mostly from Japan.

Normally you are lucky to find back issues of the Gothic and Lolita Bible or a copy or two of Gosu Rori. So imagine my surprise when I saw a whole stack of BABY's catalog mook! I couldn't resist buying it! It's more expensive than it would have been online, but seeing it in person is more exciting ;)

Of course, I was also attracted to the gift with purchase - the BABY heart pochette! I saw 小米(XiaoMi)'s pochette at the MiraMar meetup and it is really quite small, but handy for carrying your phone and small cosmetics such as a lipstick or small compact for touch-ups. Normally, the gift with purchase in these types of magazines are eco totes or small makeup pouches made of fabric. The pleather pochette for BABY's mook seemsto be a better deal to me!

The mook itself is rather thin at 62 pages, but I really enjoy it!

The shape will be warped from the thickness of the pochette, but it flattens out after a day or so of being weighed down under a stack of GLBs ;)


The pochette is protected in plastic, a layer of cardboard, and then another plastic with the BABY logo printed.


I recommend cutting out the page it is glued to along the cutting line before removing the pochette. The sticky lines will stick to the facing page of the mook! I cut out the page, which was printed with BABY's Swan Lake print, and saved it for scrapbooking.

The Brand Logo is inscribed on the pochette. It is a little difficult to photograph due to it being black-on-black, but I hope you can see it!


In the opening. You can see that it is quite small. I can only put a phone and wallet or lipstick and compact. Even phone + camera is too much! But I think I will use this pochette for makeup at meetups.

The handle was quite bent from being rolled up, but I hung it from my doorknob with just my phone inside and the handle straightened out within a day, no worries!

Review/Tutorial~Dylon Dye Run Colour Remover

A few weeks ago I posted about my dream dress print running because it got wet. I asked 3 different dry cleaners and none were able to offer any insight or advice on how to fix it (AKA, they told me "too bad! It's ruined forever!"). So I posted to EGL asking what I should reconstruct the skirt into. Instead, I got many recommendations for products to use to get the dye out. One that was mentioned many times was "Dylon Dye Run Colour Remover." Unfortunately, none of the shops I checked (I checked 4!) sold this, so I ended up buying it online. Once it arrived, I eagerly tried it out! I took some photos so you can see how it works!

1) Product:

POINT! It is advisable to do a spot test on the seam allowance to make sure your clothes can handle this product! No, I didn't spot test since my skirt was ruined already anyway /建議要先在衣服的縫分試試看用了會不會更糟。 我自己是沒試試看 哈哈 想反正已經退色了!

POINT! It is recommended to wear protective gloves when working with chemicals like this! 建議要戴手套! 者種化學藥品很有可能傷皮膚喔!

Conclusion:
Dylon Dye Run Colour Remover removed all the excess red dye without fading the original print at all! I am very satisfied with it and so glad that my skirt looks like new now!
