Mini Taipei Twitch Meetup

On Tuesday I met up with a couple people I know from Twitch.  Iolas_ is also from the USA and lives in the south of Taiwan, but she was in Taipei for an event so we got the chance to meet up!  Since we'd been planning on going to a bar/bistro, I decided to wear something dark to avoid any spills in case other patrons (or myself) got a bit too tipsy 😹

My mom said I look nice ^u^  And loved my tights.  I LOVE MY TIGHTS TOO.
KC: BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT (Alice and the Pirates)
Choker: Hot Topic
Cardigan: Unideer (taobao)
JSK: h.NAOTO Frill
Bag: Kreepsville 666
Shoes: Sheep Puff (taobao)

The weather was decent but indoors AC is a bit chilly, so I'm glad I brought a cardigan!

Meeting up was a bit of a mess as originally we decided on Ximending, but then the morning of, one of the members asked to change it to the newly opened lalaport shopping mall, which is twice as far for me, so I needed confirmation we were changing location, but got no confirmation, suggested a group chat to make it easier to coordinate, and overall didn't get confirmation until I already had to leave 😹 Luckily, it still worked out and we were able to meet up!

There is a Harry Potter shop there! I'm not sure if it's opened by a Japanese company or if it's a branch of a Japanese company, because the title of the shop is in Japanese.  The time slot tickets were already all handed out, but the member who wanted to come here asked to queue for the shop and the "on scene" queue was moving pretty quickly, so we did.  Got to chat a bit while waiting in line.  I was the only person there without a partner (fifth wheeling, woohoo!) so felt kind of awkward, but everybody was nice!  It made the queue go smoothly and we were able to enter.

There were a lot of goods inside, and lots of functional goods, too!  not just plushes and figurines.  I don't buy Harry Potter merch, but it was still fun to see all the stuff!

Then she wanted to go see a stationery shop so we were on the way there when the rest of us got distracted by a Nintendo store 😹 We are gamers, after all!!

Eventually we did make it to the stationery shop and then to dinner at a "magic school" themed bistro.  It's like Harry Potter without the licensing 😹 The aesthetics were really cool!  Not overtly magical or anything, though on weekends there are apparently magic shows and tarot readings.  It's called Potions Magic Bar.

The menu is shaped like the Harry Potter movie Marauder's Map, and they serve butterbeer!  Also a drink called Avada Kedavra but it doesn't list what is in it. Plus, it costs $800 🙀

I ordered a drink with earl grey, passionfruit, and allspice.  It was really good! Everybody else got the butterbeers and Iolas ordered some other cocktail as well. I'm just not much a fan of beer in general haha.  My drink was really good! A bit smoky, likely from the orange slice on top?

The food was also delightful!  I ordered the black truffle smoked salmon risotto though we all shared!  Two of the group come here often, and recommended the bloody Mary shrimp pasta and the bread with salted toffee butter.

Since the two members come here often, the staff treated us to shots... THREE TIMES 🙀 Since I can't drink too much, she did make mix cocktail for me instead of straight shots 😹 It was really nice! And look how lovely the shots cups are!!
This, but TIMES THREE

The third round, Iolas and her bf also got mix/non-alcohol as they need to do some bike-related event tomorrow 😹 Her bf and I were both rather red at the end of the night 😹 I was surprised the other two members in the group didn't get red at all 🙀 and Iolas is white so genetically stronger than us when it comes to alcohol!  We were vibing and singing along to songs that played at the end of the evening 😹

It was a fun afternoon/evening!  It was my first time meeting iolas and her bf, and second time meeting the other two, so I was pretty nervous 🙀but it was nice!

Have you been to any fun theme bars or bistros?  I really like themed restaurants, bars, etc. as it makes them unique and memorable!  Of course, the food and drink must be good, too.

  1. I find it really iconic that you're still a lolita even when going out to bars etc... It's so refreshing! I'm so glad your afternon/evening went well even if you were nervous at the start 💖
We sadly don't really have any themed bars around here 😥

    1. Thank you! I really do enjoy wearing Lolita, so do it pretty often! I feel like I need to expand my wardrobe so I'm not wearing the same thing all the time. But... I also do really love my current dresses and want to keep wearing them!
Oh, themed bars/restaurants are so fun! I hope you get the chance to visit one sometime.

Yes it was a bit frustrating in the beginning but it ended up being fine in the end!
There's a couple Nintendo shops now in Taipei. It's nice to be able to see the goods in person I think!
How far is Las Vegas from you? Hope you can find some theme shops or restaurants!
