It's been years since I've gone to the zoo! It's a lot bigger than I remember πΉ
I went with my friends on Sunday! I mostly took video, but I can share a few photos that I did take~

Koala

Pandas are just lazy :3
It was a bit chilly and had very fine rain most of the day.

This hippo mostly just stood in a corner by itself
Honestly, it's difficult to tell which zoos are helping animals and which ones are for profit only. Obviously they need to turn a profit in order to afford to keep the animals well, practice conservation, rehabilitation (I don't think Taipei Zoo does this part, but I know some zoos do), and/or research.
And if they're not turning enough profit to fund all the animals, the "popular" animals who bring in the crowds will likely get the better treatment and others will suffer.

The lemurs seemed to be having a good time!
Of course, I am not a zoologist so I can only guess at how the animals were feeling based on my observation of their behaviors.
So hopefully our zoo is doing right by the animals it keeps!
We did end up skipping an exhibit or two due to time and energy (and how chilly it was!) but the zoo really can be a full day adventure!
The food inside is overpriced of course, but at least there are options! Many people actually bring their own snacks and drinks. Some families had little rolling trolleys for carrying their food.

I was a bit jealous of the heat lamp!
It wasn't terribly crowded due to the weather, so that part was good at least!
For NT$100 I think it's a worthy experience if you enjoy zoos!
I had to compress this video so I hope it works!
Have you been to your local zoo? How is it if you've been? I regret not going to the San Diego Zoo when I was in San Diego in 2022!! I heard it's quite large and nice, though their ticket price is also quite large π

I like going to zoos too ♥╣[-_-]╠♥ There was a small zoo I visited in Bermuda that my husband and I loved. The US would never do this, but they had the lemur enclosure set up so that the lemurs were like, free inside a huge area where you could have basically touched them. Like they were running around without any barrier between people and lemur. I have photos of us standing just a few feet from them because we were so fascinated. The zoo was also super empty but extremely well taken care of, so we had a blast looking at all the wildlife.

DeleteThat sounds like so much fun!!!!! I've heard of bird or butterfly cages with a similar no-barriers setup, but not for larger animals! That would be a lot of interaction the animals can get each day~
Animal well-being is so important that many places aren't even actual "zoos" anymore and becoming more sanctuaries or at least conservationist centers. I hope the place you went to takes care of them as I know nothing about it Dx But you can always search for ones that def do and support them! I've been to a few places and made sure to find out if they were okay.

DeleteI think this is the only zoo we've got, so I imagine it'd be the best! I have no idea how to tell if the animals were behaving normally or stressed out, so I just hope they're all being treated well
Very true that some zoos are actually rescue centers now! I know the pandas are definitely a conservation effort
