Day in Tamsui

 It has been so many years since I took the long MRT ride up to Tamsui!  Because I had a friend visiting, we decided to go together and I took a half day off from work.  The weather was threatening rain, but fortunately just remained a bit overcast, so it wasn't too hot and a jacket was just right!

We met up in the afternoon and when we reached Tamsui, we walked along the river.  There is also an old street there to visit!

We stopped by 水灣Waterfront restaurant and had some tea and apple pie a la mode.  The tea was SO good!!!  NT$200 for a pot and a view~  The interior was very lovely as well, but I only took video and didn't think to take photos haha!

It's Bali, Indonesia themed!  I think the cuisine is also Indonesian, so that may explain why the apple pie did not taste much like apple pie the way you may think of American apple pie.  It didn't have cinnamon flavor, but had some other flavor in it?  The crust was also a bit like a crumble instead of a crust, and overall the flavor wasn't the best.  The ice cream was nice though!  NT$180 for this

On our way back, we also stopped for some black pepper shrimp (NT$350) because it was on my friend's list of foods he missed from Taiwan from when he lived here!

We stopped by the end of the old street so I could join a Pokemon Go raid 😹 and took this photo by the museum of oddities (it costs NT$99 to enter, so we just looked at the entrance)

Then we went to Taipei 101 but everything was closing by around 10PM in that area.  It was a very long trip (Tamsui and 101 are at opposite ends of the MRT line) that day, but spending time and traveling with friends makes the travel time go fast! 

Overall, I enjoyed myself and it was nice to see how Tamsui has changed or stayed the same.

Thanks for reading!  Is there any place in your area you haven't visited in a while but want to go back to?  Sometimes we just need the right people and right reason to go a bit out of our way and visit these places again!
