Lolita fashion is often emphasizing elegance and modesty, with many layers and not much skin showing. Swimwear on the other hand, often focuses on "sexy" and revealing designs, with the options for "cute" adult designs few and far between. Sports-focused swimwear seems to be the best option for coverage, but without kawaii options.
Enter Mermaid Closet, a new brand of swimwear designed with lolita aesthetic in mind! I only just found out about this brand this past Saturday, and am tempted despite the fact I don't swim.
The designs look like they would be perfect for a beach party! This dress, which is my favorite design, comes with a dress, bottoms, lace sleeves/legwarmers, lace collar, and matching headdress/choker.
There are also drawers available separately if you would like more coverage on the bottom in case of the skirt washing upwards.
They would be nice as regular bloomers as well!
I also adore the separate blouse available:
In addition to providing more coverage (there is also a solid blouse design) I think it could be worn with regular clothing too! It would look nice with the following bikini design in my opinion:
And of course there are classic-looking onepiece designs too. I like the black one:
Each multi-piece set is US$176, and the blouses and drawers are US$35. I think that's really reasonable prices!
My only concern would be that the weight of the longer length skirts would get heavy/pull on the rest of the dress, but given that the website states the designer comes from a swimwear background, I hope that wouldn't be a problem!
Looking forward to seeing more from Mermaid Closet!
What type of swimwear do you prefer? I have been steering towards monokinis in the past years when browsing swimwear because I want to keep my tummy covered at all costs! And monokinis come in more fun designs than a standard onepiece. The printed JSK swimsuit is really calling to me though 🙀 Maybe if I even get invited to a pool or beach party?
